Muji Xmas 2011

Monday 7, November 2011

We have designed several products for the  Muji Xmas collection 2011.

The “Count and Learn” jigsaw set, for example, consist of nine numbers and each is composed to the same number of parts that the number itself.

Children can separate the parts by colours, then count them to know which number they should make with those parts.
A simple way to relate the concrete to the symbolic.

The products are now available worldwide in Muji shops. We will be posting more images soon.

Meanwhile you can have a look at the whole collection here.

Learning from nature

Wednesday 5, October 2011

Learning from Nature is a five day workshop at the Kun Shan University in Tainan , Taiwan.

We have been always interested in nature, and we will be looking at how nature ‘design’ things, and what can be learn from it.
The first step will be analysing different solutions that nature has come out with when confronted with a need. Containers, structures, networks….

The hands-on workshop will involve experimenting and building things to test the ideas. The workshop is addressed to the students of the Creative Media College at Kun Shan University.

New energy in design and art

Wednesday 5, October 2011

This month ” New energy in design and art” opens at the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam and the REC & PLAY project that we made in collaboration with Yuri Suzuki last year will be part of the exhibition.

Here is the description by the museum;
New energy in design and art is an exhibition about energy and the search for a new balance in our living environment. Artists, designers and progressive thinkers present their (alternative) ideas about our consumption of energy.”
“The artists and designers in this exhibition no longer think in terms of utopian ideas but show us pure reality. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen attempts to bring this reality into contact with our imagination.”

The exhibition includes works by Joris Laarman, Jurgen Bey, Mischer’traxler, Gerrit van Bakel, Dunne & Raby, Auger-Loizeau, Philippe Rahm, Zoe Papadopoulou, Design Drift, Theo Jansen and Tomás Libertiny amongst others.

To get a better understanding of some the projects there will be also a website containing videos showing those projects in action. See it here.

O’clock

Wednesday 5, October 2011

The Plant Posters will be exhibited at theTriennale di Milano, Design Museum, as part of “O’Clock – design del tempo, tempo del design”.

An exhibition curated by Silvana Annicchiarico and Jan van Rossem, with a special exhibition design by Patricia Urquiola.

Each poster consist of a plant that ‘grows’ slowly for about three months. The Poster Plants were developed as part of the research on capillarity that was the starting point for the ‘Ink Calendar’ and a series of ‘Slow printings ‘ which play solely with the absorption of ink on paper.

A wide selection of site-specific works, installations, designer items, works of art, videos by international artists and designers will try to answer such questions as: “How can time be measured?”, “How can passing time be shown?”, “How can time be experienced?”.
All exhibits address such topics as the passing of time, ever-changing time, perishing, sometimes funnily, sometimes poetically, sometimes meditatively and critically.

The exhibition start next week (11th) and will be open till the 8 January 2012.

MultipliCity

Sunday 11, September 2011

The London Design Festival is around the corner and we will be showing a few new projects at MultipliCity.
The exhibition curated under our alter ego ‘Federal Office’ will be again introducing new work by a set of European designers
to a wider audience.

This year the intention is to celebrate the city and its diversity as a source of inspiration for designers. Souvenirs, the urban landscape, local traditions, flea markets, they all play a role in making the city an important resource for ideas and a laboratory for design production.

Participating studios / designers:
Oscar Diaz (ES)
Simon Donald ( UK)
Alon Meron ( IL)
Nadadora ( ES)
Zaven ( IT)

The exhibition has been sponsored by Ponoko and each designer/studio has created a project using their platform, inspired by the city their live and work. Those projects will be available to buy or download as a file during the time of the exhibition.
In parallel to the exhibition there will be a pop-up shop with selected memorabilia about several cities by Czech collective Okolo.
The exhibition will be open from the 20th to the 25th of September at 3 Yeoman’s Row (SW3 2BB) as part of the Brompton Design District, and the private view is on the 22th from 6-9 pm.
